A nice frosty January day in the Northeast. Perfect for a little photoshoot in the snow. See you folks on Thursday.
Happy New Year! The first work Tuesday of the year is in the books. Murph went on another shakedown cruise. Still lots of little issues, but we are gaining on it!
I hope everyone had a joyous and relaxing Thanksgiving filled with food and family.
We are busy at work putting together a retrospective of the rebuild of Murph. This is what we picked up on July 29, 2022.Â
A lot has happened in a year!
We are getting so close to the finish line with Murph.Â
What was supposed to take 10 days has taken about 14 months with a number of distractions along the way. Not our goal, but 10 days was not a realistic goal in any event and we are going to have this one done pretty quickly in reality.
As we get closer to finishing this jeep, I think we are going to be pretty proud of the work - it is coming out nicely. Lots to talk about here - the balance between quality and time.
Look forward to sharing the video with you on Thursday.

We are going to be talking finishing - metal prep, paint choices, OD colors, bondo, leading, hammer and dolly and more.

Great progress this weekend. I got Murph wrapped in OD. I am still obsessing about a few little small dents, but we are getting close. Should be an epic episode this week!
Hope you guys are making progress on your projects!
I am reluctant to consider how many hours I spent fettling Murph's grill. In the end though, the grill of a WW2 jeep is the most distinguishable characteristic and will get plenty of close looks.
I am pretty pleased with where it stands. Of course the primer makes a few dents visible so there may be a little more, but we are getting close here.Â
Hope you are having a great weekend!
Hope y'all are all having a great Friday. I am getting ready for a super busy weekend, finishing the rebuild of a T18 transfer case and hopefully making lots of progress on Murph.
If you are poking around on the site, you might notice that we increased the subscription price for NEW members only. Existing subscribers are grandfathered! We appreciate your continued support.
Our technology host increased our monthly costs for storage as we keep growing the library of past episodes. All worth it in the end.
Cheers!
Attended the Redball Swap Meet and Show last weekend so did not get too much done in the shop.Â
But....I picked up a couple of really cool things for Murph, including a nice original glove box latch that cleaned up to new condition. I also made a major score..... reveal on Thursday.
Based on several requests, I am going to be offering a 2 day welding & tin knocking class on Friday & Saturday September 29/30 at the shop. The class will be limited to 4-5 participants - $350 per person.
The main focus will be learning to weld in a patch panel, hiding seams and managing the inevitable distortion from welding sheet steel.Â
We are going to use the MIG welder as well as the oxy-acetylene torch. We may add TIG depending on student skill levels and desires.
We will discuss the proper use of the pneumatic and electric angle grinders and the various media available for this work.
Finally, we are going to manage panel distortion with planning, the torch, the hammer and dolly and the shrinking disc.
Students will need to bring their own PPE (minimum gloves, welding helmet, eyes and hearing protection).Â
There is local lodging available within 20 minutes of the shop. We will provide lunch.
If you are interested, kindly send me an email to sales@portrayal.com by Wednesday 9/20.Â
I am opening this up to subscribers first and then will broadcast this more broadly starting Thursday.
Looking forward to seeing some of you!
