I was going to guess west Texas.  My moms family goes WAY back in the history of Texas.  One of the two messenger boys was a Highsmith.  My daughters would all be daughters of the Revolution there in Texas.  My favorite Texas spiel is "Yall better don't"  Great video.

Oh what a feeling 

The second story has no humor whatsoever.  Please tuck that muffler up under the tub so that your friend’s granddaughter doesn’t try to get out of the jeep and burn the back of her legs on the muffler.  It happened and it was ugly.

I remember trying to get my jeep running the first time after it was close enough.  We had all kinds of timing issues.  But it turned out that because the oil pump on my jeep was not clocked correctly, therefore the distributor was not allowing the #1 plug to fire at the roughly 5 o’clock location.  Once that was figured out, it fired right up.    Keep up the good fight.  Robert

Pat, Love the videos and where you are at in this jeep restoration with the rope and the muffler remind me of a couple of stories. My rope I tied up myself reading how to in the “All American Wonder” books. Bought my rope, wove the ends and neat as a whistle I wrapped my rope around my bumper. So proud of myself. Took it to my first show and the first veteran comes up and starts asking the others whose jeep this was.  Of course, I was pointed out and he comes up to me and starts giving me crap about my rope so neatly wrapped around the bumper. He starts telling me what ya gonna do when your jeep dies and every German in the whole German army is shooting at ya as you unwrap that nice tight rope from around the bumper. He then proceeded to explain to me that you need to wrap it in a loose bow tie around the gussets, so it comes right off when the whole German army is shooting at ya. He then showed me how to do it. Now I carry my rope wound around the gussets in a loose bow.

Sirens are the BOMB. I wish I was as comfortable taking motors apart to rebuild as you all were. It appears that my bushings are worn out and about 15% of the time it kind of binds up and doesn’t turn fast enough. My tub is currently a repop tub. My GPW is a 9 of 42 Richmond jeep that did not yet have a blackout light, so I just used the blackout light switch hole and put my button there. My siren is mounted on the inner fender under the hood. It’s just as annoying as mounting it on top of the fender. I hope your veteran feels well enough for the parade. There is nothing better than to carry a WWII veteran in your jeep in a Memorial, a Veterans Day, or a 4th of July parade.
